I decided that I need to put some handles on the end stoppers so that I will be able to take them in and out easily when they are hot. So I looked all over for some handles that I thought we had saved from the old house. I could not find them anywhere.
I was about to go out and buy some when I noticed this:
Drawer Handles
I have some drawers that I took out of the wall at the old house before they demolished it. I kept the drawers as packing boxes for my tools and other junk. They are not used as drawers anymore, just boxes. So they do not need their handles. So, I took off the handles and I will use them for handles on my steam box.
I also decided that I need bigger holes for the steam vents. I got out my gouge.
Plugs With Handles
That is a very large gouge. I bought it at a rummage sale for no particular purpose. I guess it is finally going to be useful. I used it to widen the holes that I drilled in the plug.
Gouging a Hole
You can see here how I enlarged each of the holes in the stopper plate.
Enlarged Holes
Screw the handles onto the plugs...
Handle In Place
Flip it over and you can see the enlarged vent holes.
Improved Vent Holes
After I stuffed the plug back into the end of the pipe you can see the improved venting of the plugs.
Improved Vent Holes in the Pipe
I guess I am about ready to start steaming some wood. But I ran out of time today, so maybe tomorrow.
