When I went down to see the banjo again, I noticed that I had left out one of the parts yesterday. I forgot to put any finish on the horizontal part of the tailpiece.

I Forgot This One Last Time
So, I threw it into the mix this time. I did a light sanding to rough up the finish and smooth out any bumps.

I wrapped the sandpaper around a dowel to get into the curvaceous parts of the neck.
